The Highways Department has ordered the Mass Transit Railway Corporation to submit a report regarding the construction of To Kwa Wan Station under the Shatin to Central Link project by June 18.
The department made the statement today in response to the media enquiries on a construction incident.
The department said it learned of the incident on June 5, adding it and the Transport & Housing Bureau are highly concerned about the issue.
The MTRC wrote to the department on June 8 saying its contractor did not follow the construction drawings for part of the works for the reinforced concrete wall adjacent to the staircases on the To Kwa Wan Station platform.
It said it has asked the contractor for an explanation and rectification as soon as possible. The contractor is also required to submit follow-up and remedial plans.
The department said, however, the MTRC’s reply did not contain information on the cause of the incident, the supervision of works, the structural impact and other data.
It wrote to the MTRC on June 11 expressing dissatisfaction that the incident was not reported to the department in a timely manner, adding it is disappointed and considered it unacceptable the MTRC could not identify the problem during its supervision of the works.
It added it has told the corporation to submit a report within a week with a detailed explanation of the cause of the incident and rectification plan.
