Rail link cost review urged

Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung today urged the MTR Corporation to revisit its cost estimates for construction of the Express Rail Line.

Prof Cheung told reporters that the corporation has given a figure of $71.5 billion as the revised cost, but that it should consider the opinions of the two independent experts to obtain a realistic figure.

As for who should bear the legal responsibility for any cost overruns, he said such matters have to be determined according to the provisions of the Entrustment Agreement signed between the Government and the corporation several years ago.
