MTRC confirms subsidence at another Light Rail station

MTRC bosses have confirmed today that another part of the rail network has been hit by subsidence.

A platform at the Light Rail’s Tuen Mun Swimming Pool stop has been sinking. Officials have not said by how much, but said it is less than the 20 millimeter level which would require a halt to any nearby construction, RTHK reports.

The MTR Corporation said that in October 2015, it had been notified by the Buildings Department that construction would begin on a residential project near the stop. Railway officials said they believe piling works at the site have since been completed.

The subsidence was detected at the end of last year, the railway operator said.

In recent weeks, subsidence has also been reported on the West Rail Line in Yuen Long, at Tai Wai Station on the East Rail Line, and Tin Wing Light Rail stop.

The corporation said there are no safety issues at any of the problem spots and train services have not been affected.
