LRT Macau section to open bid around year-end

The Transportation Infrastructure Office(GIT) has announced that the Light Rapid Transit Macau section will likely launch tender at the end of 2014 or early 2015

The government proposed three designs for the LRT route in NAPE area. One of the options is to cover Avenida 24 de Junho. GIT said that authorities have shown a supportive attitude toward the aforementioned option, the authorities decided to take the option and commence preparations.

As for the Taipa section, GIT said that the previous delay was caused by contractors who needed time to familiarise themselves with the city’s environment.  MLTS will be the first rapid transit system in Macau. The Government of Macau first proposed the project in 2003 but it faced public opposition and was held back.  The MLTS will eventually be connected to the Guangzhou-Zhuhai intercity rail system. The connection will help in integrating the two systems.
