Gov’t rebuffs calls to demolish concrete at Hung Hom Station

Secretary for Transport & Housing Frank Chan has rejected a call to demolish concrete at Hung Hom Station to check its construction quality.

He rebuffed the suggestion after attending a Legislative Council meeting today saying it lacks scientific justification.

“The suggestion to demolish the concrete for the sake of examining whether or not there are substandard works is a way that (is) without any scientific justification.

“If there (is) further evidence pointing to the likelihood of such substandard works, then it might warrant another thought.”

Mr Chan said the inquiry into construction problems with the Hung Hom Station platform of the Shatin to Central Link project will summon witnesses.

He said the probe will be more reliable than drawing conclusions according to media reports.

He asked the public to view the issue scientifically.
