Engineer to join Gov’t inquiry team

The Government has found a suitable candidate to join the inquiry team investigating construction problems with the Hung Hom Station platform of the Shatin to Central Link project.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam told the Legislative Council today the process has taken time as the member had to be an engineering professional who had not been involved in Hong Kong works projects.

The engineer also needed to have no relationship with the Mass Transit Railway Corporation.

The inquiry, once approved by the Chief Executive in Council, will be headed by Justice Michael Hartmann.

Mrs Lam said the Government prioritises safety with infrastructure projects, adding the inquiry will also review the MTRC’s works supervision system as well as the government mechanism to monitor and control such works.
