COWI and the newly acquired UK based consulting firm Donaldson have won a series of contracts on a new three-runway system allowing the Hong Kong International Airport to handle future traffic demand.
COWI and Donaldson joined forces last year and are now growing their presence in SE Asia with new contracts on the three-runway system (3RS) at the Hong Kong Airport.
The airport’s traffic demand is estimated to reach 102 million passengers, 8.9 million tonnes of cargo and 607,000 aircraft movements per year by 2030 and the 3RS will allow the airport to handle an additional 30 million passengers a year according to the Airport Master Planning of 2030.
“The early results of the collaboration between Donaldson tunnel staff in Hong Kong and COWI Marine are very positive as they allow us to widen the technical offer to our existing clients beyond the tunnelling skills they know us for and push into the marine market,” says Andy Sloan, Managing Director, Donaldson Associates.
Strong position in SE Asia
The marine elements of the project comprises deep cement mixing of contaminated mud pits along the existing seawall, reclamation of 650 ha, various ground treatment schemes, 12 km new seawall and about 6 km existing seawall to be removed or modified.
