Hong Kong control point contract worth $6.5 billion awarded

The Civil Engineering & Development Department today awarded a $6.5 billion contract for construction of a road connecting the Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point and the proposed Sha Tau Kok Road Interchange.

The contract includes the construction of a 4.6km dual two-lane connecting road covering 0.6km of at-grade roads, 3.3km of viaducts and a 0.7km tunnel.

The works are scheduled to start this month for completion by the end of 2018.

The project’s target is to develop a new boundary control point in Heung Yuen Wai with an 11km dual two-lane connecting road that will link it to Fanling Highway. The control point will be the seventh land crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, providing efficient access to the eastern part of Guangdong and the adjacent provinces.

The connecting road will also provide convenient access to North District’s road networks and future developments, improving the overall transport network in the adjoining areas.
