The Government will enhance its monitoring of ongoing public works tendered to a contractor responsible for construction of the Shatin to Central Link.
Secretary for Development Michael Wong Wai-lun wants to assure the public that the MTR safety scandal is not spreading to other government projects.
He said there are no signs of irregularities at seven government construction projects being undertaken by contractors embroiled in the MTR safety scandal.
Leighton Asia, one of the contractors, is involved in the seven government projects. But Wong said an inter-departmental group has found no problems with the projects.
On Sunday, a subcontractor for the Leighton and China State Construction joint venture was ordered to stop all excavation work at the Exhibition Centre Station after MTR Corp learned about inadequate support in an underground site.
Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung told reporters yesterday that the Government is very concerned about recent issues concerning construction problems found on some stations of the rail project, notably Hung Hom Station.
The Development Bureau has formed an inter-departmental group to boost checks on public works involving the contractor.
Mr Cheung reiterated the Government attaches great importance to safety in works projects, adding it will thoroughly study all issues concerning the rail link.
