Construciton gets underway at Central Taipa LRT Station

The construction of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Pai Kok Station on the Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança in central Taipa will commence today.  The announcement was made earlier by The Transportation Infrastructure Office (GIT).

The contractor will be converting a section of the pavement and parking spaces into a temporary make shift road in order for the Estrada da Baia de Nossa Senhora da Esperanca to continue to have two lanes in both direction open while construction is underway.  This traffic arrangement will continue temporary for 12 months approximately.

The Pai Kok station will connect Cotai and Old Taipa Village according to information from GIT.  Several education and healthcare facilities, including Kiang Wu Hospital, Taipa Portugues School and Sam Yuk Middle School are located nearby.  GIT believes that LRT can provide a convenient channel for the hotels and tourism area in the area, as well as bringing tourists to the old Taipa area.

The first station to begin construction in central Taipa will be Pai kok, the office stated that following the instillation of other major components in the LRT Taipa section such as the piers, contractors will start building other stations in Taipa this year.
